5 Things to Do to Fall In Love With Lifting Weights
Looking lean is nothing compared to feeling strong and the good news is lifting weights can help with BOTH! It’s taken me a long time to love lifting - but if I can do it, so can you!
I get it, it can be scary and full of things we DON’T want:
We don’t want to get hurt.
We don’t want to look bulky.
We don’t want to admit that we don’t know where to start.
We don’t want to hate it and quit.
5 Things to do to help yourself fall in love with lifting include:
Take regular progress photos to see proof you’re changing
Track your reps and weights to see progress!
Aim for 3-4x day per week of lifting and plan mini-rewards for reaching that goal
Create a happy space to lift! If you don’t like the vibe or environment in your gym- find a new one! Or make your own inviting space!
Build support-make a gym buddy, have an accountability partner or your trainer
Even before I was a trainer myself, I met many women working out in gyms who were lifting weights (yay!) by copying what they saw on a You Tube video or an influencer on Instagram (nooooo!). If you think you hate lifting, or that it’s not working for you, or you’ve started and quit before and that was your approach, that might be why. There’s a better way to lift (and make sure you love it)!
Along with those five little things that make a difference in loving lifting, a better way to get the confidence to be consistent and the results you love is to follow a program by a qualified fitness professional. There are many varieties- from gym-based programs, resistance band programs, home workouts with simple equipment but the thing they should all have in common is an end goal. Each end goal is not the same but you should know what you get out of the program and pick a program with an end goal that matches yours.
