1 Mindset Mistake Many Newbie Clients Make

If you’ve been working on the same problem or struggling with the same issue over and over for a long time, this might help may sound familiar and an uncomfortable way that will hopefully spar you into action so you can move on to better problems in your life .

The best method, the “secret to success” is usually the simplest, most basic step. Easy to do. Just as easy NOT to do.

It’s not fancy. It’s not complicated or dependent on multiple variables you have to spend your whole day managing. It’s just small basic actions, that you decide and commit to doing every day. Or almost every day.

Many times I’ve had a new client start off expecting to follow the most rigorous tracking, complicated program to get results. And I’ve had a few I know think I’m taking it easy on them or insulting them even by starting with small simple action steps. Like there’s no way that doing a 10 minute walk in the evening will help them lose 10 pounds. Or that starting the day with 16oz of water will also help them lose 10 pounds. It won’t in one day, that’s for sure but over time, having healthy, active habits will. WE just have to be patient and not over-complicate the basics.

It’s true, the simple things don’t give us instant results and they’re easier than expected, so we often don’t think they’re working and we quit too early . The simple things are so easy to do it almost feels like we’re cheating. It’s like we should be trying harder on something more complicated to actually make a difference but with that mindset, we are mistaking rapid progress for lasting progress.

Success comes when we consistently show up and do the work. No one wants to lose 10 pounds only to gain in back! Success is found in the actions we take daily that build our habits which determine our lifestyle. You can and will lose weight by getting and staying consistent with the basics!

For example, let’s say you eat really well, like within all of your macro targets AND don’t miss a workout for a whole week. A week that is 5-7 days is not going to immediately reverse and progress in another direction 6 months or 6 years worth of choices that got you to the point where you want to lose 10 pounds. But yet we (myself included!) often expect it to! So we get discouraged and we quit or move just as quickly in a different direction, so we aren’t really making progress at all, we are just changing course.

If you want to Find success in weight loss Do this instead

We are conditioned for immediate results and instant shipping. But our bodies are not programmed that way! So when the results aren’t there after one successful week, we give up thinking there must be a better approach. Or that we’ve missed something that would have gotten those 10 pounds off already. After all we weren’t doing anything crazy and we can work harder.

Rinse. Lather. Repeat These Basics:

  • Move your body 20-60 minutes daily in a purposeful or playful activity, preferably a few times a week have resistance and stretching exercises

  • Start the day with 16oz of water

  • Spend 10 minutes a day de-stressing

  • Eat what your body actually needs- not too much, not too little (if you don’t know, ask for help!)

  • Sleep for 7-8 hours a night

What we often miss is that it doesn’t take super hard, challenging stuff. It takes the doing basics like moving your body, eating wholesome food in the right quantities and managing our stress over and over and over. A journey of a thousand steps always begins with one step repeated over and over! Your wellness journey is the same!
